Swimming For 20 Minutes Every Day Can Help Boost Your Mood, Sleep Better, And Tone Your Muscles

Swimming is not only a super fun activity, but it can also help you lose weight, lower stress, and improve your flexibility.

Swimming is a full-body workout like no other. It is both fun and effective at the same time, something you can't say for a lot of other exercises. While experts say more than 30 minutes of exercise is required every day to stay fit, when it comes to swimming, just 20 minutes could do the trick. There are many benefits to swimming. Here are seven ways in which swimming for 20 minutes can help you:

Swimming works your whole body, from head to toe. There are different strokes you can swim and each works most of the muscles in your body. The water provides a gentle resistance as you swim against it and helps tone your muscles. Swimming not only tones your muscles but also strengthens them. While a few strokes may be upper body intensive, you can engage your lower body muscles as required as well. It might just be better than any aerobic exercise.

Swimming may not make you sweat but it certainly helps burn a ton of calories. It is a very efficient way of tackling calories. Depending on your weight and sex, a person can burn an average of 150 calories for every 10 minutes they swim. It depends on the intensity with which they swim as well. It is actually much more effective than running or yoga to help keep a check on your weight.

Unlike other high-intensity workouts, swimming does not have any adverse impacts on your joints. Running and other aerobic activities may prove to be too strenuous and cause injury but swimming will not. At least not in the same way. Other forms of workout utilize the full weight of our body to burn calories but swimming has us immerse in the cushion of water which protects us from the strain. The water also provides sufficient resistance to be effective. People with certain injuries or even arthritis can take to swimming to stay fit.

It helps you get better quality of sleep since it helps you relax as well as tires your body enough for it to crave rest. Any form of regular physically demanding exercise has helped older people deal with sleeplessness. Swimming for just 20 minutes can actually help soundly.

Even though we need to work against the resistance it provides, buoyancy helps reduce the impact it has on our body.
