Portuguese artist Odeith has mastered the art of converting 2D canvases to 3D pieces of art that will make you do a double-take.
Art is subjective and there are many forms of art. Different artists like to express themselves differently. So even if they were to interpret the same thing in their own style, it would manifest in completely different ways. Even the way we consume art and feel about it differs. The creations of this artist, however, will leave everyone in awe without fail. Portuguese artist Odeith has mastered the art of converting 2D canvases to 3D pieces of art. If you come across any of his masterpieces, you will have to do a double-take to fully drink in the details that go into creating the illusion that you are seeing.
Using spray paint, he can give a sense of depth to absolutely any flat surface. In fact, most of Odeith's compositions are painted on corners or flat walls. He uses the anamorphosis technique which is an ingenious method of image distortion that when viewed from one particular angle makes the pieces come together to form a complete picture. This is the method that helped Odeith get international recognition, according to his website. "A dark style of anamorphosis, which he later called 'Somber 3D.' Authentic compositions of huge insects or objects, painted in abandoned spaces became viral and stood out for their realism and technique," the website stated.
Among his spectacular art that has gone viral are the murals he has made by converting a block of concrete to realistic-looking vehicles. Where there were just blank walls now stand a battered school bus, a whole train, a truck. At first glance, it will definitely look like an abandoned vehicle in a deserted area. But it's only when you go up close that you will be able to tell then there is nothing but a wall. His other murals also include larger than life birds, frogs, insects, and skulls that look like they are jumping off the wall. Each art project he undertakes is more mesmerizing than the next and with his distinct style, it's easy to tell that it is his creation.
“I have been drawing since I was a little kid, but I never expected to get this far,” he told Bored Panda. And over time, his passion for art has grown with him. "It's something that lives in me," he said about art. Even though he does not feel inspired all the time, he tries to challenge himself and see where his "madness" takes him. He draws inspiration from different themes and tries to create something new and different. The abandoned bus that went viral, he says, started with "zero inspiration." But that was one of his best works and it brought him a lot of recognition.
“Dream the impossible do the incredible," he said of creation titled ‘Running Dog!’ to Grafitti Street. "Probably one of the craziest things I ever painted. Not because of the complexity of the painting but really difficult to set all frames on the same place...with no projector or any other tool.” He spray painted each frame on a wall to create a short animation of a running dog. There are many other aspiring graffiti artists who look up to Odeith for inspiration. And to them he says, “Keep working hard, chase your dreams and never give up.”
