The 3D LEGO set will have 1,552 pieces and will also include a mini-figure of Vincent van Gogh along with a miniature painting.
Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night" is an iconic piece of art that has seeped into all our lives one way or another. Even though he was largely unappreciated as an artist during his own lifetime, his impressionist paintings did manage to make quite an impact on people a century after his death. Particularly the painting he called "The Starry Night" which went on to become his most recognizable work yet. The art is now being made accessible to us all in a way Van Gogh could have never dreamt of, as he struggled to find the recognition he thought he deserved when he was alive.
The Starry Night will now be made available as a 3D LEGO set. You can now build the painting with tiny plastic parts and relive your childhood as you keep the legacy of Van Gogh alive at the same time. The LEGO set is a tribute to the Dutch artist and was the brainchild of LEGO Ideas Club Member known as legotruman. The user wrote, “As a LEGO fan and an admirer of the painter, I wish to recreate one of his most celebrated artwork in Lego form, and share this with all Lego fans and art lovers!” The idea needed 10,000 votes to be turned into an actual LEGO product.
The idea did, in fact, gain enough support and we can now get the unique set for ourselves. The LEGO set will have 1,552 pieces and will include, "clips and brackets to form the swirling cloud; plates stack to form the hillsides and bushes; curve parts build up to become the cypress tree," and legotruman's favorite part, "the inclined plate stack on the right, capturing the angled brushstrokes within the moon-lit cloud." The iconic 1899 painting of the sky, as Van Gogh saw it from his asylum window at Saint-Paul-de-Mausole near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, can now be a 3D recreation that sits in your house.
To make things more exciting, the set will honor the artist himself and include a Vincent van Gogh mini-figure as well. The figure will also come with a miniature paintbrush, painting palette, an easel, and a “Starry Night” mini-painting on a printed tile. This will make for an absolutely adorable addition to the already brilliant LEGO set. You can set the LEGO Van Gogh in front of the finished LEGO "Starry Night" for a mind-bending effect. Even legotruman stated, "I love putting the mini-figure before the 3D scenery. It is like watching the artist work on the painting in real-time."
Everybody who admires Van Gogh or his work will probably own coffee mugs, t-shirts, towels, or magnets, with his work on them. But owning the LEGO set of his work is setting your art obsession a world apart. The LEGO is now in production and will be available soon for purchase. Van Gogh, during his time, barely managed to sell a few of his paintings. But now, his paintings are everywhere in different forms. He thought of himself as a failure for not being able to sell his work and died by suicide at the age of 37. During this time, he created over 2,000 pieces of art in his signature style. The surreal piece that is "The Starry Night" is magnificent and also "resonates with so many people is a testament to how its beauty is timeless and universal," states the Van Gogh Gallery.
